Our Journey to Transform Aged Care in Australia
Our journey began in 2012, sparked by a deeply personal story. Our founder, while contemplating the future care needs of her mother, recognised a major gap in Australia's aged care options. She realised that there wasn’t a single aged care home, not even those she operated at that time, where she would feel comfortable for her mother to live.
This realisation propelled NewDirection Care, and forged a new direction in aged care, one where individuals are supported to enjoy a normal life within a community that truly feels like home.

This personal connection continues to drive NewDirection Care today. If we wouldn't accept traditional institutionalised aged care services for our loved ones or ourselves, why would we offer them to others? Our original aim was modest, to inspire sector-wide reform by demonstrating that change was possible. When this transformation didn’t happen, we took matters into our own hands to create the future we and many other Australians envisioned for our loved ones and for ourselves.
The resulting MICRO TOWN® model is a complete revolution of aged care. This is a community for all older Australians, no matter diagnosis or support need. A place where everyone is supported to live in a real home, in a real community, with complete freedom to continue living the life they know and love.

MICRO TOWN® Model
Our community is more than a beautiful place to live, it is somewhere you will be supported to continue living your life the way you want every day. This unique approach to individualised care was pioneered by NewDirection Care and is slowly being adopted throughout the industry. Led by our House Companion™ Support Worker role and our larger multi-disciplinary team, we empower every resident to live their life to the fullest. Whether it’s maintaining daily routines, having the freedom to independently do tasks you enjoy like cooking, gardening, even doing your laundry, or simply being supported to engage in cherished activities. We are here for you.
Unlike traditional aged care facilities, we truly support you to continue living the life you know and love. No matter your diagnosis or support need, we support everyone to do this and all residents living in the MICRO TOWN® have the same level of freedom and dignity.
Our Community
A common experience for people entering aged care is the unfortunate loss of community and social engagement that are a part of normal life. Why should you lose access to these things that are valuable and meaningful to you? That is why our unique MICRO TOWN® model includes a full retail precinct of shops, cafes, cinema, beauty salon, barber and corner store. Additionally, there is a music room, GP consult room, a dental practice and a health & wellness hub with gym and hydrotherapy pool.
Our Homes
At NewDirectin Care, we have transformed aged care with our unique small-house design, offering 17 domestic-style homes where residents enjoy a truly home-like experience. With just seven residents per home, each space is intimate and designed for comfort, featuring open-plan kitchens, cozy sitting rooms, private bedrooms with ensuites, and beautiful yards. In collaboration with designer Shaynna Blaze, we have created six uniquely styled homes, fostering independence and a sense of belonging for all. It’s a fresh approach to aged care that prioritises comfort, warmth, and personal freedom.
